3-D OBSTETRICAL ULTRASOUND
 
Galen OB/GYN is proud to be able to offer our patients the option of 3-D ultrasonography.  This kind of ultrasound scan is fun and offers an opportunity for much more detailed and clearer pictures of your baby.  Optimum timing for a 3-D ultrasound is between 28-32 weeks’ gestation.
 
At this time, insurance companies do not consider these types of scans medically necessary for diagnostic purposes.  Because insurance will not cover 3-D scans, the cost of 3-D ultrasonography is the sole responsibility of the patient.  The cost of 3-D ultrasound imaging is $200.00 and is due at the time of service.  Clear 3-D imaging is not guaranteed and is sometimes unsuccessful; if this occurs, the cost of the scan will be reduced to $100.00.
 
Again, we are proud to be able to offer this leading-edge technology to our patients and are glad that you want to take advantage of this opportunity to have 3-D imaging of your child at this stage of development.  As noted above, great pictures cannot be guaranteed every time, as we depend on the cooperation of the baby and other factors.  Any problems found while performing a 3-D scan will be brought to the attention of your physician immediately.
